Enter San Pedro Squared….

The Downtown Property-Based Improvement District (PBID) managed by San Jose Downtown Association has been awarded a Knight Cities Challenge Grant.  For the initial year of Knight Cities Challenge, 32 projects received funding from more than 7,000 entries.

The San Jose assignment is to design, develop, and build micro-retail spaces along the ground floor of the parking structure on the east side of San Pedro Street. Additionally, new public spaces will be built in front of the shops, offering more places to sit, gather and activate the street. The project will showcase San Jose’s local businesses and talent while simultaneously providing new shopping and public spaces for our rapidly growing urban core.

San Pedro Square Market has quickly become a major destination in
downtown San Jose.  Home to artisan chefs, a farmers’ market, nightlife and local retail, the Market has brought the entire San Pedro Square area to new heights of economic success, complete with new investment, high-rise residential construction, infrastructure improvements and more.

So how do we capitalize on this new growth? How do we bring this energy and momentum of the market and new development to the street-level, to the pedestrian-scale?  Can we take the success to an even higher level?
